Mother's Day Weekend - Part 1

We had planned to go down to the coast for our anniversary in April, but due to the rain storms we had recently, we pushed back the trip to Mother's Day weekend. Honestly, with all that had transpired with Marcelino and Meeko, I wanted to go to the coast because we promised Aleena, but my heart wasn't in it.

Meeko's vet said that Meeko needed to be in a quiet serene place for about a week in isolation. What better time to leave the house to her all by herself than this very weekend. My mom was gracious enough to care for Meeko while we were gone. At 9:00pm, we decided to proceed with our trip. This is how we left Meeko.

When we arrived to the vacation rental we rented for the weekend...this is how Aleena was crashed out at midnight...just like Meeko! LOL

The next morning, Aleena didn't want to get up. All she could say was..."Mommy...it's too loud! The birds are too loud!" as she hid behind her monkey. LOL!!!! Since we are 2 blocks from the coast and the backyard was a mini oasis covered by trees...we got a fair dose of tropical birds singing to us in the morning.

We found this amazing little house called "Palm House" on http://www.vrbo.com/ (vacation rental by owner) I recommend the next time you need to travel to visit this website first to see if it will be a better fit for you. We found this house on Palm Drive, about 2 blocks from the ocean, in Port Aransas (not a town outside of Port A) for a very cheap price, better than the cost for a hotel. Best yet, it was completely private with a huge canopy of trees for Aleena. The house was so amazing and convenient. We were right smack in the middle of Port A. We loved it and will stay there again!

We saw the cutest little lizzard. It reminded my of Puerto Rico as it climbed along the storm shutters.

We went outside that morning and enjoyed some playtime in the private, fenced in, huge, secluded backyard. It was beautiful.

We headed out on the town and stopped at Moby Dick's restaurant for some grub. We heard good things about this place and wanted to stop by.

The food was fantastic. Check out Aleena's corndog! Matt also says that he had the best burger of his life there. He enjoyed every bite of that burger! We defintely will be back.
Afterwards, we went across the street to a gift shop and Aleena walked right into the belly of the shark!
Soon after, we headed straight to the beach! We were so excited to get to take Aleena swimming again. Aleena got to learn how to surf a little....she really had a good time until daddy accidentally dunked her in the water. Then she wasn't as brave. It was good to watch her learn though.
After a fun time in the water, we headed to the beach to build san castles.
Here's a picture of Aleena in the exact same outfit that she wore when we went to the beach in July 2009. Almost a year ago! Does this girl grow? Too cute. I love the blast from the past pics.
After a fun day in the sun, we came back to the Palm House for a nice long shower and nap. When we were well rested, Aleena and I painted our nails together. It was so much fun. I can't wait to do more things like this when she is older. It was a fun treat for the both of us.

We headed out for a late dinner to Fin's which is on the water. It was still a bit warm...almost 90 degrees at 8:00. Matt was definitely wanting to sweat through his dinner, so we opted for a nice booth inside.
Aleena enjoyed her first smoothie.
It was a nice night so we played around watching the boats sail. Time flew by fast, so we retired back to the house for popcorn and a movie. It was such an amazing day. A nice break from the stresses at home.
