4 Years old already?!?!?

Aleena had her 2 year check up today, a little late, but hey..better late than never.

She weighed in at a whopping 25 lbs...finally my poor baby breaks out of the 23lb mark that she was stuck in forever!

Needless to say, her overall report was really good. She is still in the 25th percentile for height and weight, which mommy got scolded for. I learned that I can't keep giving Aleena whole milk as it fills up her little tummy and she is getting too many snacks in between meals.... I was a little flustered because there is no manual for this stuff! In my mind, I was trying to fatten her up because the dr says she's too little. So what will fatten her up? Whole milk and snacks like cheese, yogurt, fruits..anything that has a calorie! Nope...pediatrician says 2% milk and no snacks..just her meals considering that she is a light eater. Hopefully this will engage her to eat more during meal time. Apparently early snackers lead to heavy set kids. Who knew?!?! I always thought eating 6 meals a day was a good thing. Apparently not in toddlers!

So aside from getting the slap on my hand from about whole milk...Aleena really impressed the pediatrician with her speech and development. Aleena had to perform a series of tests from jumping and balancing acts, to identifying pictures, to telling us what the pictures are and relating them to specific actions...e.g. picture of a bird, cat, dog...you ask..which one flies. Aleena pointed to the correct object and said "This is the bird. The bird has wings and flies in the sky". This is normally a 3 year old question. The dr didn't know what to say to that...then the doctor pointed to a 4 year old question and asked Aleena to tell her what color it was...Aleena goes "Green square" and then without asking continues to say.."and thats a red square, a blue square, and a yellow square." Her doctor was amazed that she not only know the color and could say the color, but could also identify shapes.

I told the doctor that Aleena knows all of her colors and shapes, to include octagon, hexagon, cresent (which she calls cresent moon), heart, star, square, rectangle, circle, oval, and triangle. The doctor then asked me what I was going to do when she got to Kindergarden? I didn't know what she meant by that.

I thought Aleena was learning at a normal pace, maybe a little step ahead in her speech, but certainly not at a 4 year old level...so now I worry...what WILL we do when she gets to Kindergarden?????

Is it too early to start thinking about placement tests and private schools if necessary???? We are really proud of our baby! But now I'm overwhelmed.....
